Mohamad Halim Merican is a Certified Hotel Administrator with over 30 years of hands on hospitality experience. He holds a Diploma in Hotel Management and Diploma in Food & Beverage and a graduate from Hotel Management School Les Roches in Switzerland.
Over the 30 years of hospitality experience, he has worked with International Hotel and Resort brands such as Hilton International, Hyatt International, Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts and Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts. Over the last 17 years he has dedicated himself in developing local hotel brands such as the Mutiara Hotels & Resorts, Impiana Hotels & Resorts and most recently Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
During his illustrious career with those companies, he has held senior management position in the areas of Food & Beverage, Rooms Division, Sales & Marketing which included Corporate Sales & Marketing and Project Management. He was the General Manager of the Yield & Revenue Management division for the Mutiara group of Hotels and the Group General Manager for the Impiana Hotels & Resorts group.
Being a complete all-rounder in the hospitality industry, it has allowed him to manage the hotels under his care through a better understanding of the operations which included an analytical mind in handling the Finance and Human Resources department of the hotels. During his time with the Shangri-La group he assisted in the setting up of the Shangri-La University which transformed the Rooms Division of the Shangri-La group including the Golden Circle program. At the Pan Pacific group, he piloted the implementation of the Service Centre concept at the Pan Pacific Hotel KL but completed the task at Pan Pacific Hotel KLIA. This included the Service Culture implementation including Minimum Quality Standards in several of the hotels.
He is currently the Vice President for both Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) and Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO). Apart from that, he is also the Industry Advisor for Linton University College in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan. His passion is to grow local talents into great hoteliers and providing the insight of the industry to the younger generation.
