Trainer’s Profile

ROY CHENG, CHT, armed with a Bachelor in International Hospitality Management from the University Of Toulouse, France, Roy brings with him 18 years of diversified experiences in the hospitality industry. He has been involved in the field of food & beverage, training and development, and education. Roy has been awarded the Certified Hospitality Trainer designation by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association Roy’s professional experiences include being a Restaurant Manager of a business class hotel as pre-opening team, Food & Beverage Manager of an international resort and Group Manager of an international chain of restaurants. In addition Roy was also involved in occasional oversea Catering of the President Cup International Tennis Tournament in Republic of Uzbekistan.

Among other credentials, Roy has held the position of Head of Technical Studies at the Taylor’s College, School of Hotel & Catering Management, responsible for the academic planning and daily operations of the Food & Beverage Department, Kitchen and Rooms Division. His active academic background has brought him to France and Australia under working secondment to gain exposure with Lycée d’ Hôtellerie et Tourisme d’Occitanie and International College of Hotel Management, Adelaide. Roy has also gone to Johannesburg, South Africa for a training attachment to understand the functional aspect of international chain restaurants. He was involved in the pre-opening training for a few restaurants in Singapore and also a training consultancy project for a 5 Star hotel in China. Roy has also conducted training programme in Vientiane, Laos for the Lao Hotel & Restaurant Association.

Prior to his current appointment, Roy was the Director of People Development & Quality for a large integrated 5 star resort in Malaysia comprising of more than 1,000 rooms. During his tenure at the resort, Roy has achieved the prestigious Human Resources Minister Award for the resort’s significant roles and contributions in the field of human resources development.

Roy has served as Vice President of Education & Training Development of the Malaysian Food & Beverage Executives Association (MFBEA) and was actively involved in conducting training courses for the public, government institutions and hotels. He is currently appointed by the Ministry of Tourism as the member of the inspection team for the Malaysian Star Rating of Hotel. Roy is also the consultant trainer for the Malaysian Association of Hotels Training and Education Centre (MAHTEC). Roy is the certified ServSafe Instructor and Proctor for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) of USA. He is also a certified trainer for Basic Food Handler programme accredited by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
