Ms. Canny SL Tan CHT CHE

Trainer’s Profile

Ms. Canny SL Tan has been in the hospitality industry for the past 25 years, with last held positions in senior management of leading Malaysian hotels, namely the JW Marriott Hotel and Berjaya Hotels & Resorts.

She acquired her Diploma in Hospitality Management with Honours through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) – USA, and obtained a Master in Education from the Open University Malaysia.

She also holds two Certificate of Specialization with Honours from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) – USA, respectively in Hospitality Marketing and Human Resources.

Ms. Tan possess a broad spectrum of management experience in Human Resources and Training with a solid understanding of the tasks and responsibilities of front line employees in particular Customer Care being her forte as a result of rising through the ranks in the Pan Pacific Hotel’s Operational Departments.

In addition she has lectured at Stamford School of Hospitality Management and at the same time as the Lecturer-in-Charge for the School of Tourism Management division. Her last position in the college was Programme Coordinator where she managed the School of Hospitality Management.

Ms. Tan is also a Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT) and Educator (CHE) from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) – USA, in addition to being certified by the same institute as Certified Facilitator for its Managing Front Office Operations and Hospitality Sales & Marketing programmes. Currently as an approved Facilitator for the Malaysian Associations of Training & Education Centre (MAHTEC) and the American Hotel Lodging & Education Institute (AHLEI), she is conducting their respective professional diploma, customer care sessions and specialized certification programmes locally and internationally.

Apart from the above appointments, Ms. Tan has also been appointed as the National Trainer for Front Office for the Implementation of ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) on Tourism Professional (TP).

As part of her personal self-development, Ms. Tan has also attended on-going tourism and hospitality academic and skills curriculum development programmes locally and internationally to keep abreast on the ever changing needs of our industry to enable her to reflect it in all her sessions she delivers.

Ms. Tan will have the expertise to deliver this subject as she will impart her practical and theoretical knowledge and experience to the participants.

She is an enthusiastic and committed trainer who takes time to understand the need of the participants and works hard to ensure they see results.
