The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Sabah Chapter has successfully completed its pilot public training programme, marking a significant milestone in advancing professional development within the state’s hospitality sector.

Held from 6–7 October 2025 at Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu, the inaugural programme titled “AI in Action: Practical Applications for Hotel” brought together 27 passionate Heads of Departments and hotel managers for two days of dynamic, hands-on learning.

Organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Hotels Training and Education Centre (MAHTEC) and supported by E-Perolehan and HRD Corp, the programme was designed exclusively for MAH Sabah Chapter members, reflecting the Chapter’s proactive commitment to continuous learning and industry advancement.

Integrating Artificial and Emotional Intelligence

Building on the theme “AI meet EI = Artificial Intelligence Meets Emotional Intelligence: Leading with Heart & Strength,” the training focused on leveraging artificial intelligence tools to enhance hotel operations while maintaining a human-centred approach to leadership and guest engagement.

Participants explored practical ways to integrate AI in sales, marketing, and operations, learning to:

  • Utilise free and low-cost AI tools effectively,

  • Automate repetitive marketing tasks,

  • Personalise guest communication, and

  • Develop a 30–90 day AI action plan for their respective departments.

The session was led by Arutoshy Anamalai, an experienced IT trainer with over 16 years in the field, including a decade of corporate training with major organisations such as Astro, Petronas ICT, and Hewlett Packard.

Championing Professional Growth

The success of this pilot programme demonstrates MAH Sabah Chapter’s commitment to equipping its members with relevant digital and leadership competencies in an evolving hospitality landscape. It also underscores the Chapter’s forward-thinking vision in embracing AI-driven innovation as part of the broader transformation of Malaysia’s hotel industry.

“This initiative exemplifies the power of collaboration between industry and education. It is inspiring to see our members embracing technology while maintaining the human touch that defines hospitality,” said a MAHTEC representative.

MAHTEC commends MAH Sabah Chapter for its strong leadership and initiative in pioneering this impactful learning experience, a testament to the Chapter’s dedication to raising the bar for professional excellence and future-ready talent development in Sabah’s hospitality community.
